The Diversion Economy

The Diversion Economy: The Diversion Economy names the mechanics behind the One-Click-Away Problem: Comparison Diversion and Conversion Diversion.

Where it shows up

The Diversion Economy takes two forms. Comparison Diversion happens when a category page presents a list of competing companies and a generic quote button, even though the person arrived researching one specific company by name. Conversion Diversion happens when a review profile immediately offers pricing or availability through the platform itself, inserting a middleman between the company and the person who was looking for it. Both quietly put the relationship a company spent money to earn at risk, on a page the company does not control.

How it is measured

Power100 checks the pages cited in a company's Affirmation Search answers for both patterns, and treats a diverted answer as an Evidence Gap to close, not a platform to blame. See the One-Click-Away Problem for the outcome this produces.
